April Technical Meeting
 

 

April 17th saw 29 members and guests converge on The Ian Wark Institute of University of South Australia lecture theatre for a joint technical meeting between S.A Section and the Ian Wark Institute.

 

The evening began with some informal refreshments and general discussion before Prof Magnus Nyden opened precedings with a overview of the Ian Wark and its role with in the University.

 

Prior to the introduction of the evening speaker a 25 year membership was awarded to one of the South Australian stalwarts, Mr John Dimoglidis

 

Dr Joshua Taylor from BASF then began his presentation"BASF Polymer Dispersion Structures for the surface coating industry"

Dr Taylor outlined the many dispersion structures historic, current and moving forward that the formulating chemist has at his/her disposal. Very end use dependent. Also outlined  some of the current BASF products already available to the formulator to address individual needs. Question time followed.

 

With the formalaties of the evening over , general discussion followed with regard to what the Ian Wark Institute can offer the industry with future projects.

A brief tour of the facilities available and benifites therein was conducted the quite a few hardy soloes ajorned to the Mawson Lakes Tavern for further discussion and a very enjoyable meal.

Feb 2013 Technical Meeting
 

 

Feb 20th saw the some old stalwarts and associates gather at the Hackney Hotel for what  I hope will be an interesting and enjoyable year for south Australian Section of technical meetings and social events

 

A small but interested group of fellow members were treated to a presentation by Mr Ken Lofhelm SCAA current President.

 

The paper "CSIRO Success Stories - A Review" highlighted not only the work carried out for our industries but also touched on the vast field of endevours currently being studied and reviewed on a daily basis, our taxes at work.

 

Also present was long time member and identity of the associstion, Mr Ian Pike.

Ian was lucky ehough to get his 50 years membership pin from President Mr Ken Lofhelm

 

All in all a thoroughly enjoyable evening was had by all with questions carried over well into our fine dinner

 

South Australian Section Committee is striving for an enjoyable and relevent calender of events so keep yur eye on the website for up comming events

Past Chairman's Lunch
 

 

November 18th brought together 9 past S.A Section chairmen dating back to the early 60's  at the refurbished Hackney Hotel to have some fine dining and reminising the good old days of SCAA and OCCA.

 

A slide presentation of activities from the Creswick conference was shown for those who could not attend and this stimulated many discussions of conference's past (or it may have been the wine) whilst the younger members passed on to those present the direction today SCAA is heading. Quartly inperson meetings, e-learning coarse, scholarships and bursuries

 

All in all a great afternoon was had by all, with all present promising to again come together in 2013 for further updates of goings on within the Association.
